I invite you to join our Intentional Acts of Kindness Group (continued below)

Enter my "Brainstorm" Contest. Win my furnished home. Enter with your 10 Reasons. Read my Journal)

I've started a private (moderated) list on Yahoogroups to post REQUESTS for kind assistance from strangers where needed, and OFFERS of kind assistance from those who have it to give.

This is a place where we exchange creative solutions, ideas, and advice to help someone who needs resources in order to live a decent life or undertake a worthwhile project.

Let's say you need to get to California to see a dying family member but can't afford the airfare. Someone in the group says, "I have air miles. I'll trade you for _____ ." Another says, "I live in California near the hospital where you're going; you can stay at my home." It's people helping people. That's what this country needs... not skepticism, cynicism, and mistrust.

Here's another example of what I mean. I've always wanted to have someone cook me great meals and keep my home organized (so I can spend more time writing books) but I can't afford to hire someone. Maybe you're a great cook and would love to cook for others but you have no place to live. I could offer you your own furnished room, bath, and parking space in exchange for making my life run more smoothly. It's all based on "I need something and I have something to offer: a suggestion, a contact, a talent, a skill, an ability or a body of specialized knowledge. We put our brains together as a "think tank" and help each other.

This is not a place to solicit money; but you can ask for a job.

This is not a place to advertise a product; but you can get help launching a new service you offer.

This is not a place to expect professional services for free, but you can
barter with what you have of value.

Please note: This is NOT a tangible-item-recycling board. For that, please join www.Freecycle.org. Freecycle.org is a good place to offer free things you don't need and want to give away for free. (I belong to FreecycleNWPA (northwestern Pennsylvania) and FreecycleEriePA on yahoogroups.com.)

Join by sending me a private email with your name and one thing you
need to have or do that seems impossible to attain:

This is not a therapy group, nor a class, nor a general discussion list.
You are encouraged to participate by providing assistance to others - if only advice or ideas. There will be no name-calling, incivility, put-downs, bullying. No blatant ads or posting of material that is copyrighted by someone else.

If you have an important goal to achieve that can't be achieved without help or you want to help others get what they need, and this Intentional Acts of Kindness Group appeals to you, tell me and I'll see that you're invited to the group.

Receive Andrea Reynolds' Weekly Civility Tip Caution: Not for the timid.

Be forewarned: Although kid-friendly, Andrea's humor and writing style are similar to Ben Stein's (droll), and occasionally borders on Lewis Black's style (cranky, exasperated). If you can't appreciate anecdotes about unacceptable behavior to see the contrast in kind/civil behavior, these tips aren't for you.

But, if you're as fed up as Andrea is with gossip, slamming, sniping, name calling, disrespect, rude behavior, mean-spiritedness, hostility, bullying, mobbing, and aggression, then you will appreciate her short, specific action steps to making our world more respectful, courteous, hospitable, compassionate, kind, warm and inclusive.

1. Subscribe now (Restarts in January 2005)

2. Read each week's tip and reflect on it.

3. Incorporate and practice the action step in your own life.

4. Demonstrate your own CLASS and CONSIDERATION of others.

5. Be a role model for your kids, parents, neighbors, co-workers, team-mates, class-mates, room-mates, bosses, teachers, coaches, etc.

6. Encourage your kids, parents, co-workers, teachers to subscribe.

7. Invite Andrea to speak at your group's next event. She promises a presentation that provokes and disturbs your audience.

Requires only 15 seconds to read. Text only. Free. Kid-friendly. Guaranteed: Privacy, No Spam.

Also... Join our Intentional Acts of Kindness Group to request a kind action when you need one or offer to do a kindness.
